West Ham and Valencia are in a tug of war over Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez, as reported by the Daily Telegraph.

But West Ham hijacked that move on Friday night, flying a delegation to Spain for last-ditch talks to blow that offer out of the water.

In the event of a move to Newcastle not materialising, it seemed that one of Wolves or West Ham would look to pounce, with Everton also credited with interest.

"West Ham United can confirm that Marko Arnautovic has joined Chinese Super League champions Shanghai SIPG for an undisclosed fee", read a statement on West Ham's website that totalled only 43 words. This is according to "Sky Sports". He's just a number to them.

Speaking on the subject, ex-West Ham striker Teddy Sheringham gave his two cents on the matter, advising his former club to not hold the player to ransom, but rather, take the cash and reinvest the funds on the playing squad.

With Marko Arnautović potentially on the way out after having submitted a transfer request, Gomez is set to take up the mantle should the London club get the transfer over the line.

"It's an incredibly exciting time for this football club", Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers said, "and to be able to bring players of Youri's quality here is an indication of the hunger for success we have here".

"They are so desperate to get him out of the club that they are willing to do a awful deal to get him out of West Ham".

Arnautovic engineered a move from Stoke City to West Ham, then talked his way into an improved contract with the Irons before using his brother as a mouthpiece in a bid to move overseas.
