Billionaire Jeffrey Epstein arrested, faces new charges of sex trafficking of minors

Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex Rossmiller said that while there is some overlap between the Florida and NY cases, one of the counts against Epstein is based entirely on NY victims. According to police, employees of Epstein along with associates would allegedly recruit girls for the billionaire, with some of Epstein's victims eventually becoming recruiters after some time.

One area where this case could end up having national implications, though, are the issues surrounding current Trump Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta, who was United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida during the time that Epstein was charged with interstate and global sex crimes involving minors.

Epstein, arrested over the weekend, is expected to make his first court appearance on the new charges Monday in New York City. "Further, once these minor victims were recruited, many were abused by Epstein on multiple subsequent occasions at the New York Residence", the indictment reads.

Davies says she worked as Epstein's personal masseuse.

"While the charged conduct is from a number of years ago, it is still profoundly important to the many alleged victims - now young women", Berman said.

The 2nd Circuit said records in the defamation case contained descriptions of sexual abuse by Epstein along with new allegations of sexual abuse by "numerous prominent American politicians, powerful business executives, foreign presidents, a well-known prime minister and other world leaders".

He has maintained that he believed the girls were at least 18 and that the encounters were consensual.

The court document unsealed Monday describes a predatory pattern in which girls were taken to a room to perform "massages" in Epstein's NY mansion.

He encouraged other victims to come forward and contact prosecutors. "While the charged conduct is from a number of years ago, it is still profoundly important to numerous alleged victims, now young women. We are proud to be standing up for them by bringing this indictment".

Epstein, now 66, is a financier who once counted among his friends President Donald Trump and former president Bill Clinton.

The deal was overseen by former Miami U.S. Attorney Alexander Acosta, who is now secretary of labor in the Trump administration.

The report said Acosta had brokered a deal with one of Epstein's attorneys, where he pleaded in 2008 to two state prostitution charges, ultimately serving only 13 months and avoiding a federal trial.

Epstein is a registered sex offender. A judge ruled in February that the plea deal violated federal law because victims were not notified.

Trump's long-time association with Epstein also involves allegations women were lured into sex trafficking from Trump's Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida. He was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is in custody in NY.

A father of one of his students is said to have been so impressed that he put Epstein in touch with a senior partner at the Wall Street investment bank Bear Stearns. Within four years, he was made a limited partner. In the end, he was found guilty of abusing more than 80 women.

His lavish lifestyle, along with the secrecy surrounding his client list and other details of his business, earned Epstein a reputation as a mysterious moneyman.

Shortly after leaving, he enrolled at New York University, where he also took classes for two years.

"I've known Jeff for 15 years".

"He has never been secretive about the girls", columnist Michael Wolff told NY magazine for a 2007 profile piece, as the case against Epstein moved through the courts.
