The Plantation Fire Dept. tweeted out that it was a gas explosion, but as of 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Plantation Police would not confirm the cause because it is still an active investigation.

Fire departments from Plantation, Davie, Lauderhill, Coral Springs, as well as Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue have all been called to the scene.

Joel Gordon, deputy chief of the Plantation Fire Department, confirmed that over two dozen people had received medical care for their injuries, two of which were seriously hurt and one with life-threatening injuries, USA Today reported.

Roads remain closed across the city. "I just wanted to get these guys safe", he said, pointing to his children.

Windows were shattered and debris was scattered throughout the area and parking lot. That's where her business, Motion Stretch, was supposed to open next week.

"I saw just about everyone from LA Fitness who was part of the staff after I got out, so I think they're all accounted for ... but I didn't see anyone I personally knew at the gym today", said witness Alex Hoy. "They won't have jobs".

In one, alarms can be heard as a man says: "Holy s**t, the whole building blew up".

"It's insane", Yacob said.

The explosion happened Saturday morning at the shopping center, west of Fort Lauderdale in Broward County.

Lynn Kline, the salon's owner, said customers rushed to their cars, some with half-haircuts and foil in their hair still. Residents reported feeling their homes shake from several miles away.

The state fire marshal, other local agencies and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the cause.

"It was a loud explosion and you couldn't tell where it was coming from", Davis said.
