Officials knew of Border Patrol Facebook group's offensive content for years

The Department of Homeland Security must take immediate steps to defuse "a ticking time bomb" brought on by overcrowding at detention centers for undocumented migrants in South Texas, the agency's Office of Inspector General said in a report dated Tuesday.

"The problem we're having at the border, a problem that Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez has helped create, is that we have 5,000 people a day-not a week, not a month-a day coming into this country", Kennedy said.

Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-Scranton) joined other Democratic lawmakers Monday in calling for an investigation the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) following a bombshell report into a private Facebook group comprised of current and former CBP agents. A group of lawyers who visited the Border Patrol-run facility said roughly 300 children were being detained in filthy conditions with no access to showers or personal hygiene products and with little food, for weeks at a time.

Ocasio-Cortez made her comment in a quote retweet of a journalist who showed pictures that were released by the Office of the Inspector General.

"Our border patrol system is broken".

Leftist Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), who famously and falsely claimed that Customs and Border Protection is running "concentration camps" on the border, now claims - again falsely - that border agents are forcing migrants to drink out of toilets.

He said his family has also been impacted.

"There's abuse in these facilities", the outspoken Democratic congresswoman from NY told reporters.

Homeland Security officials have said they are complying with the law when separating children from non-legal guardians and have grave concerns over the possibility of trafficking, but have echoed advocates' worries about the conditions for children in border facilities not meant to detain them.

U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro speaks to the press in San Antonio on Tuesday.

Border Patrol managers are quoted describing "security incidents", such as detainees clogging toilets with Mylar blankets and socks in order to be released from their cells during maintenance.

Clara Long, senior researcher at Human Rights Watch, said she has seen immigrants sent to wait in Mexico for their asylum hearings tell the court they arrived on the border with a child and they no longer know where the child is.

Crenshaw's comments follow accusations made by Ocasio-Cortez about migrant detention centers she visited.

On June 24, the bodies of a Salvadoran migrant and his 23-month-old daughter were found after they drowned in the Rio Grande while trying to cross into the US.

"That outlet faded away and was replaced by social media, where people thought they had a safe place they could vent and process", said Bonner, whose career ended in 2010 and who does not belong to the group. "Any employee found to have compromised the public's trust in our law enforcement mission will be held accountable".

In a scathing tweet posted Monday, Lahren defended the CBP officers and called Ocasio-Cortez "completely out of line and a disgrace to this nation".

The Texas visit came the same day as Trump signed a $4.6 billion emergency aid package that Congress passed on Friday.
