Meghan cheers on Serena Williams at Wimbledon

Serena Williams was given a right royal Wimbledon scare before battling past teenager Kaja Juvan.

Favourites with the bookies are Meghan's best friend Jessica Mulroney at 1-7, and Harry's "Glosse Posse" mate Charlie Van Straubenzee.

The duchess was flanked by two female companions as she took her seat among spectators. Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, both attended the royal wedding and came with the Duchess to watch Harry compete in a polo match in Ascot, England, last summer. Meghan wore a stunning diamond necklace from the New Zealand-born jeweller during her royal visit to the country in October 2018. His christening is on Saturday.

However, Williams ruled herself out of the guessing game. Serena Williams has confirmed she won´t be able to attend due to work commitments.

The 37-year-old American - bidding to join Margaret Court with a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title - struggled to impose herself on an opponent ranked 133 in the world.

"This is Prince Harry and Prince William going their separate way with their wives - they're nearly setting up two separate courts", said Rieden.

Williams' fighting spirit returned when it mattered, having resorted to playing percentage tennis earlier in the set, and she aced the lively looking Slovenian with another typical burst of brilliance.

The Duchess of Cambridge saw some of the action on the outside courts before taking her place in the Royal Box on Centre Court.

In the post-match press conference, Serena revealed that she would not be attending Archie's christening on Saturday because she is competing in the tournament.

"I'm actually working on Olympia's game". The match lasted for an hour and 34 minutes and an 18-year-old debutant gave her best against the greatest possible rival, winning the opening set before losing the edge on the court. "She´ll be his older sister-like", continued Serena showing how close her family is to the Sussexes.

She added: "Unfortunately all it does is create more hysteria around an event that should be a simple celebration of Archie's birth".
