Kate surprised by arriving at Court 14 to watch the UK's Harriet Dart play the USA's Christina McHale.

Activities included a treasure hunt and bug spotting, and the duchess giggled as a young boy held a magnifying close to her face during their bug expedition.

The Duchess, a self-confessed fan of tennis, is a regular at Wimbledon.

While we all might not be going to Wimbledon, this outfit would be flawless for a big summertime occasion, or even as a day-after-the-wedding bridal outfit.

Dart actually turned the match around after the Duchess had headed off to other parts of the grounds, but did not feel her presence and the interest it generated had been a distraction.

"Such a privilege for me for her to get to see me play". Even better? Her handsome smile!

Kate, 37, invited children, parents and carers from her patronages (Anna Freud Centre, Evelina Children's Hospital, Action for Children and Place2Be) to explore the new space at Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival.

Asked if being watched by royalty made the win more special, Dart responded: "It was pretty surreal".

The Duchess told the children: "I love tennis, I think it's a great sport".

"She was very interested to hear what my thoughts were and what Katie's thoughts were on the game, she was clearly enjoying the tennis as well".

Last year, the duchess attended Wimbledon with Meghan Markle, now the Duchess of Sussex, in their first solo outing together since the royal wedding of Markle and Prince Harry.

Middleton sat with British tennis player Katie Boulter and retired former British number one Anne Keothavong on day two of the two-week-long championship.

Dart found out that Kate was courtside was at the start of the match.
