Max Wright Dies: Father On ’80s Sitcom ‘Alf’ Was 75

Wright is best-known for playing Willie Tanner on the hit 80s sitcom ALF.

The TV star portrayed dad Willie Tanner on the NBC sitcom about a friendly alien named ALF who crash-lands into the garage of a suburban middle-class family.

Other roles included starring in "Friends" for two episodes as Terry, Central Perks's manager, as well as in 'Misfits of Science, ' 'Buffalo Bill, ' 'Cheers, ' 'Norm, ' and 'Dudley'. His film credits include All That Jazz, Reds, The Sting II, Soul Man, and The Shadow.

He is survived by two children, Ben and Daisy. His wife, Linda Ybarrondo, passed in 2017.

"It was hard work and very grim", Wright told PEOPLE of acting as supporting player to an inanimate object. Wright was diagnosed with Lymphona in 1995.

Wright actually wasn't a huge fan of the show that put him on the map.

By the end of the series Wright said, "I was hugely eager to have it over with".

His ALF co-star Michu Meszaros, who played the title character on the show, passed away after suffering complications from a stroke, in 2016. His final role was the TV movie Back to Norm, which continued the story started in Norm. Liz Sheridan, who played Raquel Ochmonek on the hit series, is still alive at age 90.
