Why are USA tourists dying in Dominican Republic?

The victim is the ninth American to die in the Dominican Republic within the past year and a half, according to NBC News.

Last July, David Harrison, 45, died at the same hotel, according to his wife, Dawn McCoy.

In April 2019, Robert Bell Wallace, 67, died while staying at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino resort in Punta Cana for his stepson's wedding. Her death was also ruled to be a heart attack. He chose to shower and go to bed early.

The State Department also warns travelers not to drink alcohol alone or with new acquaintances, or to leave drinks unattended. A toxicology report hasn't yet been performed because the island's toxicology machines have reportedly been down.
