India To Keep Shikhar Dhawan Under Observation, No Replacement To Be Called

The left thumb has been a long-standing issue for Dhawan. One option is for KL Rahul to be pushed up the order to partner Rohit Sharma, and a middle-order batsman to slot into the XI. India is scheduled to play against Pakistan (June 16), Afghanistan (June 22), West Indies (June 27) and England (June 30) this month. It could well be a dream start for Shaw if he gets a call up to play in the World Cup, but his chances look slim due to a lack of ODI exposure.

Dhawan was struck on the thumb by a Pat Cummins delivery before going on to make 117 in his team's 36-run win against Australia at the weekend.

The TOI reports therefore, said, "Once all the details on Dhawan's injury are out, the team management will put out an official request for replacement".

India will take on New Zealand this Sunday.

Shikhar Dhawan Ruled Out of Team India For ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 After Suffering From Thumb Injury During IND vs AUS Match. It worked, for Dhawan scored 93 runs after first sustaining his injury.

Dhawan has been a vital player for India in ICC tournaments. In the first two games, Rahul had batted at number four. Possible replacements being talked about are standbys Pant and Rayudu along with India A captain Shreyas Iyer. Mick Jagger, who incidentally watched Dhawan cop the blow from a suite in the Oval, once summed up India's current predicament perfectly in a Rolling Stones song with these words-"You can't always get what you want". If there is any name doing the rounds, it is Rishabh Pant.
