Was Couple Vacationing in Dominican Republic Poisoned?

The U.S. State Department issued a travel advisory for the Dominican Republic in April for crime before updating it in May to rank the nation a level 2 travel advisory for crime, which warns travelers to exercise increased caution.

"During the event and in the days that followed we provided our complete support to Mr. Werner in collaboration with local authorities and the U.S. Embassy", the statement from Bahia Principe Hotel and Resorts said.

Five Americans have now died while vacationing overseas in a span of just a few weeks, with a couple in Fiji recently passing from an unknown illness.

The Dominican Republic's prosecutor's office said forensics experts have taken samples and are performing toxicological and other tests to determine the cause of death.

Adding to the mystery, the three people all reportedly died of the same cause.

The couple's bodies showed no signs of violence, police said. In fact, in an ironic twist, she went to Oxon Hill High School with Cynthia Day, but says they hadn't spoken in years.

Days before their deaths, Holmes posted Facebook photos of him and Day enjoying their time in open waters.
