He took over for Affleck in directing Warner Bros. standalone Batman movie in 2017.

When he does finally accept the role of Bruce Wayne, it'll make for one busy year for Robert Pattinson.

It is also unclear who else is on Reeves' short list, but other names that have been floated alongside Pattinson's over the last month have been Armie Hammer, Nicholas Hoult and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. It is reported that Reeves will not begin casting these villains until Pattinson closes his deal, which is believed to be anytime now.

According to sources speaking with Variety, Pattinson is now in talks to take on the role of Batman in The Batman. A report claims Pattinson is in end talks for the position, potentially making him the latest Caped Crusader in a role previously filled by Michael Keaton, George Clooney, Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, and others.

For Pattinson, this would be his first Hollywood leading role in some time - since The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, from back in 2012, to be exact.

Reeves will produce The Batman with his Planet of the Apes collaborator Dylan Clark.

No official start date has been set for The Batman.

"It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films", he said. Production is slated to start in the fall, and Warner Bros. will release the film on June 25, 2021.

Pattinson is about to shoot another film for WB: Christopher Nolan's event movie co-starring John David Washington, which is set to open July 17, 2020.

Now while appearing at the Cannes Film Festival for The Lighthouse, Robert Pattison is asked about playing Batman, but the 33-year-old actor is mum on the subject.

The Batman will be released as a standalone movie.
