Magic Johnson confirms rumor that Lakers want to sign Kyrie Irving

"The straw that broke the camel's back was I wanted to fire Luke Walton", Johnson said on "First Take". I showed her (owner Jeanie Buss) the things he did well and the things he didn't do well. Now I have Tim involved.

Calling LeBron James' first season with the Los Angeles Lakers a disappointment would be a bit of an understatement.

"Then she brought (Lakers" COO) Tim Harris into the meeting, some other guys, and Tim wanted to keep him because he was friends with Luke.

Lakers legend Magic Johnson took over as president of Lakers basketball operations on February 21, 2017, but abruptly stepped down from his role during an impromptu news conference on April 9, 2019, and without telling majority owner and good friend Jeanie Buss, who had hired him.

Johnson also said that the Lakers haven't "event talked about" the possibility of trading the four-time NBA MVP. I said, 'It's time for me to go'. So my job is to get you ready for this position.' I was gonna help elevate him to the president's position.

The process of landing on Vogel was one that did not paint the Lakers in the best picture, only adding to the negative image that was heightened when Johnson stepped down suddenly before the team's last game of the 2018-19 National Basketball Association season. "The way he approaches the game and practices, every player now is like 'wow, I've got to get better'". I make more money doing that than becoming president of the Lakers, so you know that I'm going to be in and out. "We have a superstar on our team, and an open slot", Pelinka said Monday during Vogel's introductory news conference. "I think all of us in life have probably been through things where maybe there are third-party whispers or he said, she said things that aren't true. But there's a way to get that, and it's not talking about the person that's above you", Johnson added. And Johnson wanted part-time hours. But that hasn't stopped him from making a few bold predictions. Walton was sacked and the team eventually hired former Pacers and Magic coach Frank Vogel to replace him.

On Monday, Johnson was more pointed.

After Johnson's departure, the Lakers announced they would not fill the position that Johnson left.

"It's saddening and disheartening to think he believes things are a misperception", Pelinka said.
