Attempts by the Pentagon to retrieve remains of U.S. troops from North Korea stopped due to a lack of communication from Pyongyang, U.S. officials said.

Early Thursday morning, the DPRK test-fired two short-range projectiles from its Sino-ri launch site that flew a distance of 260 and 170 miles.

A spokeswoman for South Korea's presidential Blue House said President Moon Jae-in's national security adviser, Chung Eui-yong, was closely monitoring the situation on Thursday through a video conference with the military. "But at this point no", Trump said in an interview with Politico.

Denuclearization talks between the United States and North Korea have stalled following the summit in Hanoi, Vietnam, in February.

Also yesterday the United States said it has seized a North Korean cargo ship that was used to violate worldwide sanctions, a first-of-its-kind enforcement action at a tense moment in relations.

While Kim's latest tests were the first since he suspended longer-range missile tests over a year ago, the short-range weapons did not compare to the Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile he showed off in November 2017.

Despite recent threats by the North to seek a new path, the nature and presentation of the two recent launches demonstrate that Pyongyang does not intend to walk away from talks any time soon, analysts say.

Last week, the United Nations reported that North Korea had suffered its worst harvest in decades, leaving many there chronically short of food. The ship, in what USA officials say was a clear act of concealment, also turned off an automatic signal system meant to alert other ships of its course and location.

Meanwhile, the US military has power and the potential to use it, and Trump often communicates that fact, said Barrasso.

"They're short-range and I don't consider that a breach of trust at all". But North Korea has not received what it wants most from its summitry: relief from punitive sanctions imposed over its nuclear and missile programs. The Department of Justice the vessel, Wise Honest, was approaching USA territorial waters in American Samoa.

According to a new report, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un had requested the United States send the country "famous basketball players" in exchange for the country undertaking denuclearization.

North Korea last conducted a major missile test in November 2017 when it flight-tested the Hwasong-15 and demonstrated the potential capability to reach deep into the US mainland. The test followed two lesser-range Hwasong-14 tests that debuted the country's ability to strike the mainland US during a spike in tensions between two countries that went to war in the 1950s, with the USA backing South Korea and the communist Sino-Soviet alliance backing North Korea.

Experts have estimated the size of North Korea's nuclear arsenal at anywhere between 20 and 60 warheads.

Trump said at the weekend he was still confident he could reach a deal with Kim, although he and Pompeo have brushed aside Kim's demand for Washington to show more flexibility in talks by the end of the year.
