Why Game of Thrones fans are so anxious about the Winterfell crypt

The season opener of the final season of HBO's legacy series Game of Thrones saw some of the highest viewership totals in recent memory for the cable network.

Except. we know two things.

There is a huge theory floating around Reddit right now that the Night King is going to bypass Winterfell and head straight to King's Landing with Viserion. Taking the holiday weekend into account and the fact that the April 21 data only includes two airings of GoT compared to last week's three airings due to length, "A Knight" dipped 8.2% from "Winterfell". The dragon could be either Drogon (with Daenerys riding it) or Viserion, the dragon resurrected by the Night King, who also rides it. The Night King, the White Walkers, the wights - they were all shown just outside the walls of Winterfell in the final moments of episode 2.

The obvious conclusion is that he must be riding a certain dragon up above. It seems there is a surprise in store for fans who believe that the Night King is leading his army of the dead in the battle against Winterfell. One of the new photos from the upcoming episode shows her outside on the ramparts with Arya (Maisie Williams). In other words, bookmark this post for later if you haven't already watch episodes 1 and 2.

Night King actor revealed in an interview battle would happen in season eight. We know Bran has been "marked" by the Night King - remember, he has the hand-print on his arm?

All we know for sure is that not everyone will survive the next episode of Game of Thrones - and the victims of the Battle of Winterfell could rest underground, up above, or in both places.

How dramatic would it be to see Bran assimilate with the Night King to kill the latter?

"Game of Thrones" Season 8 airs Sunday nights on HBO. If Night King chooses to fight at the Winterfell, then he will have to face Drogon and Rhaegal. Also, the survival of Drogon and Rhaegal after the war is important as Daenerys' journey to the Iron Throne will begin after the Great War.
