Xbox merges Live Gold and Game Pass under Xbox Game Pass Ultimate

The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition will be sold alongside the OG Xbox One S and Xbox One X and is available for preorder now. It is out on 7 May, and will cost £199 in the United Kingdom and $249 in the U.S., significantly cheaper than the other Xbox One models. And when the standard Xbox One S is on sale with a bundled game (as it now is with several different permutations on Xbox's own website), The All-Digital Edition, despite having three games included, looks less convincing as the budget-friendly option. I can't see any solid details of the special offer (perhaps 1 month free) but checking out the Xbox Games Pass page as a non-Xbox-owner I was offered; a free 14 day trial, or a first month or even first quarter subscription for just £1. Which is more than enough, considering that my Xbox One X now has space-hoggers such as Anthem, Forza Horizon 3, The Division 2 and numerous smaller games between, while still leaving me plenty of space for a few more downloads. In addition to three games, you get a bundled controller as well. Microsoft have officially revealed the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition (or Xbox One SAD Edition if you're feeling mean), and it's coming out on 7th May for $249.99/€249.99/£199.99. So when the others drop in price, this one should too.

So why buy the Xbox One S All Digital Edition?

Microsoft is also developing a videogame streaming service. "Gaming and technology have changed quite a bit since the first Xbox debuted in 2001", he said. The hardware may be costlier, but Xbox gaming on a Windows PC also carries the distinct advantage of not requiring a Gold subscription to play online.

The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition will allow gamers to store digital versions of games in the cloud, as well as pre-order and pre-install upcoming games so they are ready to play as soon as they launch.

Expect more clarity on Microsoft's plans for late 2019 and beyond - most likely including a more specific launch plan for the Ultimate subscription - when the annual E3 trade show kicks off in June.
