BOSTON-The Indiana Pacers lost the first game of their playoff series against the Boston Celtics, 84-74, in Boston.

The Celtics trailed by seven at halftime but held IN to just eight third-quarter points as they took control.

"I thought he did a really good job, and we needed him to, " coach Brad Stevens said after his team secured an early 1-0 series lead over the Pacers.

"In the third quarter, we started off with two turnovers", Pacers coach Nate McMillan said. The Celtics never really got going offensively, but they never really needed to in a double-digit victory. Kyrie Irving is averaging 20 points and seven assists while Marcus Morris is averaging 20 points and seven rebounds.

Joseph finished with 14 points and Bojan Bogdanovic 12 for IN, which shot 33.3 percent for the game overall. They made just 33.3% from the field, 22.2% from three and hit a paltry 57.1 percent of their free throws. He expects the Celtics point guard to be at his best from Game 1 against the Pacers and even if the Boston franchise do not make a deep run, he is certain Irving will ensure his stats "look good".

The Pacers led by 11 points in the first half but had just eight points in the third quarter. However, the Celtics defence suffocated the Pacers in the second half, holding them to a total of 29 points.

"When we're in the trenches like that, just continue to get stops".

Now, the model has dialed in on Celtics vs. Pacers. Irving's first possession as a Celtic in the playoffs was an enchanting menagerie of pivots, pump fakes, and indefensible shots.

Boston finished the game shooting 36.7 percent from the field, with 20 turnovers. With a few minutes, the Celtics pushed the lead out a little further, to 12-points, 60-48.

"We held them to 84 points". Boston did have a 26-8 edge in fast-break points, and in still lost by only a bucket, so if the Pacers can slow the pace even a little, they have a great chance to cover or even pull the upset.

The change paid off with Morris connecting on 3 of 4 field-goal attempts in the period, including two 3-pointers, and scoring 12 points.

Stevens went with Jaylen Brown in the starting lineup in place of Marcus Smart, who is out with a torn left oblique. When asked about his team after the game, Kyrie Irving said that ability to move on to the next thing, and not dwell on the past, was his biggest takeaway. They have incredible defenders on their team.
