Witnesses said Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, either pushed or threw the 5-year-old boy on Friday morning from the third level of the Bloomington mall's interior to the first-level floor almost 40 feet below, police said.

"He was enjoying a day at the Mall of America with his mom and friend on Friday morning when a stranger maliciously grabbed him and threw him over the 3rd floor balcony for no apparent reason. We started this GoFundMe for their family to help cover the vast medical costs and rehabilitation costs for the long ahead".

As of late Saturday night, the campaign has raised more than $310,000 - surpassing its original goal of $250,000.

"The child is still alive, he's receiving care, and I think we're just asking for thoughts and prayers for that child to recover", Potts told reporters during the press conference.

In July 2015, he was arrested at the Mall of America on three misdemeanor charges - property damage, disorderly conduct and interfering with a peace officer - after police say Aranda threw items from the upper level of the mall to the lower level.

24-year-old Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda has been charged with attempted murder after being chased down by police following the disturbing incident. He could be formally charged as early as Monday.

Witnesses said the boy's mother was screaming for help.

Police are on the scene of an incident at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota. Police did say that the victim and his family are from the Twin Cities area.

'This was a senseless act and words can not truly express our profound shock and sadness, ' the Mall of America said in a statement on Friday.

"This is a horrific situation", Potts said.

Police said Aranda tried to get away after the incident but was found later inside of the mall's transit station. At one point, Aranda had a trespass notice banning him from the mall, but it was no longer in effect.

The incident happened about 10:15 a.m.in the southeast corner of the mall.

Police confirmed that there is video of the incident but said it will not be released until the investigation is complete. The woman laughed off the request, records show, and sat down inside.

In addition to the GoFundMe, the 5-year-old's pastor spoke to FOX 9 about the family and what they mean to the church.
