Banged-up Yankees put Stanton, Andujar on injured list

Everyone is probably hoping this is an April Fools joke but I don't think the Yankees would straight up lie about this sort of thing for the yuks: the club just tweeted that it has placed Giancarlo Stanton on the injured list with a strained bicep.

While with the Yankees both Mason Williams and Dustin Ackley suffered shoulder injuries diving back into bases that required season-ending surgery.

Because tests are still pending and a treatment plan is still being developed, it's unclear for now just how long Andujar might be out. Andujar has already been placed on the 10-day injured list.

"That's one of those unsafe plays for an outfielder", NY manager Aaron Boone said Monday night after Judge preserved a 3-1 win over the punchless Detroit Tigers.

"We're going to treat it conservatively for a couple of week and see how it responds", manager Aaron Boone said Monday night after a 3-1 win over Detroit. If Andujar needs surgery, it would mean the end of his 2019 season.

NY called up Tyler Wade on Monday to help fill its roster. But when Andujar was absent from defensive drills before Monday's game, he was sent for an MRI that revealed the tear. A four-time All-Star and the 2017 major league home run champion, Stanton hit.266 with 38 homers and 100 RBIs previous year, his first season after the Yankees acquired him from Miami.

"When I went back I kind of landed a little weird, so I felt a little discomfort", the 24-year-old Andujar said. Guys will just have to step up and get the job done while some of these guys are down. When CC Sabathia completes his five-game suspension, he will make it 10.

The injuries to Stanton and Andujar left the Yankees with nine players on the IL, including pitchers Luis Severino and Dellin Betances, center fielder Aaron Hicks and shortstop Didi Gregorius. Rookie right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga will be called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Wednesday against the Tigers.
