Pocahontas Endorses Abolition of Electoral College; 'Every Vote Matters'

Electoral College reform is suddenly all the rage.

Elizabeth Warren kicked things off at a CNN town hall Monday night when the MA senator drew enthusiastic applause by saying: "Every vote matters, and the way we can make that happen is that we can have national voting, and that means get rid of the Electoral College". "Happening again in 1876 and 1888, which made incumbent Grover Cleveland so mad that he ran again 4 years later and reclaimed the office his supporters felt could be stolen from him", Avlon said.

"We can have national voting, and that means get rid of the Electoral College", said Sen. "Even president Nixon was on board, but it was filibustered to death in the Senate by southerners led by Strom Thurmond".

Securing 270 electoral votes wins the presidency.

Since then, other candidates have followed suit.

Former Maryland Rep. John Delaney, another longshot Democratic candidate, dismissed the idea as a waste of time.

"Campaigning for the Popular Vote is much easier & different than campaigning for the Electoral College".

Achieving another Democratic goal, abolishing the Electoral College, would also be hard. Mrs. Clinton has repeatedly called for eliminating the system, which would require a constitutional amendment.

In almost all states, it's a winner-take-all proposition, even if the victor does not secure a majority, such as when third-party candidates are on the ballot.

Only Maine and Nebraska allot electoral votes according to who wins the states' congressional districts.

It also encourages a two-party system and pressures candidates to campaign in every state and not just in states where they have strong support.

"The Democrats are getting very 'strange.' They now want to change the voting age to 16, abolish the Electoral College, and Increase significantly the number of Supreme Court Justices".

Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke refused to voice support on Wednesday for a law that would protect babies who are born alive after surviving an abortion.
