The Colombian global, on loan with the Italian club from Arsenal, had collided with Udinese's Ignacio Pussetto in the early stages of the game as he attempted to deal with a low cross. The goalkeeper was tended to immediately again before being driven off the pitch on a stretcher and rushed to a nearby hospital.

He was replaced by substitute keeper Alex Meret - who has been battling with Ospina for the No.1 shirt at San Paolo Stadium this season.

The Colombian received treatment and continued to play, but collapsed shortly before half-time and was stretchered off before being taken to hospital for tests.

Ospina joined the Italian club last August from Arsenal on a one-year loan with an option to buy.

Napoli later released a statement saying Ospina had suffered "a hypotensive crisis resulting from a head injury", which is a sudden fall in blood pressure which can cause dizziness and fainting.

He arrived at Arsenal in the summer of 2014 but failed to nail a starting role at the Emirates, making just 27 league appearances for the Gunners.

Ospina has started 14 league games and six Champions League games this season.

Napoli had taken a two-goal lead thanks to goals from Amin Younes and Jose Callejon but Kevin Lasagna and Seko Fofana hit back to score past Ospina.
