Running on Volvo's Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform, the Polestar 2 boasts a 27-module battery pack integrated into its floor. "Polestar delivers electric performance cars that are great to own and drive", said Thomas Ingenlath, chief executive officer of Polestar. According to Polestar, the 2 can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 5 seconds flat, which might actually put its 0-60 miles per hour (96 km/h) time somewhere near the dual-motor Model 3's, which is 4.5 seconds.

Polestar is also looking to reinvent the buying experience with new approach to automotive retail.

Volvo and Chinese firm Geely Holding have announced their first fully-electric vehicle, Polestar 2, joining the ranks of carmakers trying to challenge Tesla's dominance in the electric auto market. Polestar customer will not be subjected to a high-pressure tradition dealership vehicle buying experience.

Polestar has revealed its second model, the Polestar 2.

The Polestar 2 is powered by two electric motors and "fueled" by a 78 kWh battery.

With 408 horsepower, it should accelerate from zero to 100 kph (0-62 mph) in under five seconds.

The Polestar 2 features a multimedia system with an 11-inch touchscreen display, a digital dashboard, a sunroof, Pixel LED headlights, and a virtual key token that you could use to get concierge services.

Not enough? You can enhance the Polestar 2's performance further by optioning the Performance Pack that adds Öhlins dampers, Brembo brakes and unique 20-inch forged wheels.

This 11-inch touchscreen interface uses an Android interface, the first of its kind on any auto now in production. Star/Stop buttons may be cool, but the Polestar 2 has none of that. "And with Polestar 2 we bring an exciting premium electric vehicle that will broaden the choice on offer in exactly this segment".

Sources close to the launch state that the new electric sedan will cost around €59,900 ($68,100) for its launch editions and will have a range of about 275 miles, figures broadly similar to Tesla Model 3's €58,800 price tag and 260 miles range. Further tech, such as numerous connected services and the facility to use your smartphone as a vehicle key, also feature. The phone-as-key feature enables the vehicle to sense the driver on approach and gives the charging status and range onto the driver's phone. The polestar spaces will offer test drives as well.

Polestar 2 will make its first public appearance at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show in March and then embark on a global roadshow in Europe, North America and China throughout 2019.

The Polestar 2 is now available for pre-order and will enter production in 2020 when it will be assembled at the Polestar Production Center in China.
