Cohen Hearing erupts in argument over racism

She said a black woman wasn't intelligent enough to be there of her own free will and instead was there only because the white man told her to be there.

A visibly angry Meadows fired back, pointing out that his own "nieces and nephews are people of color". Cohen, 52, quickly flipped on his former boss, dubbing Trump "a racist, a conman, and a cheat", among other things.

Meadows fervently denied the accusation, with Tlaib saying it was not directed at him. You know - "I have a black friend, so it's not possible for me to be racist.'" Hostin went on to say that Meadows' comments were "shocking", but she was even more surprised that the congressman "then started crying and asked the record to be cleared and forced an apology from Rep. Tlaib". "Today was not about the color of my skin", she said. "[Cohen] made some very demeaning comments about the president that Ms Patton doesn't agree with". However, Tlaib was not pleased with the strategy, saying that Patton was a "prop".

Meadows went on to state that Trump could not be racist because he himself had met with the President more than "300 times" and never heard an utter of anything racist.

Cummings, who is African-American, called Meadows one of his "best friends" and diffused the situation after asking Tlaib to clarify her remarks.

HUD official Lynne Patton stands behind Rep. Mark Meadows during testimony of Michael Cohen to Congress, Feb. 27, 2019. "So, to me, that is what makes people uncomfortable - he doesn't care what people think, and he will tell it like it is". "And to prop up one member of our entire race of black people and say that nullifies that is totally insulting".

Meadows took exception and asked House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., to remove her comments from the record.

"Just because someone has a person of color, a black person working for them does not mean they aren't racist", Tlaib said during the hearing.

When Behar pointed out that Meadows said "he had black children in his family" in an attempt to explain away the "racist" label, Hostin didn't hide her disdain.

She added: "That would be my question".

"Mr. Trump is a racist", Cohen said.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) has been trouble since the day she took office - she infamously screeched, "We're gonna impeach the motherf**er" hours after she was sworn in as a member of Congress, vowing to take down President Trump.

"I've talked to the president over 300 times", said GOP Rep. Mark Meadows of North Carolina. "Anybody who knows me knows I look to show respect regardless of race or gender or anything that would indicate that there would be a racist motive for me is just not accurate".

"The president sees successes and failures", she said.
