Additionally, the c200 1TB microSD card allows applications and games installed on the card to load faster, ultimately delivering up to 100 MB/s read and 95 MB/s write performance speeds. Moreover, the card supports the A2 specification for storing and running Android apps with no speed issues. And the cards should also live up to the Extreme name, being shockproof, temperature-proof, waterproof and X-ray-proof. In addition to this new 1TB variant of the Extreme UHS-I microSDXC card, the company is also announcing a 512GB model at a significantly lower price.

Today was a big day for the future of microSD cards. It's not clear if the card meets the brand new microSD Express standard.

SanDisk and Micron just announced the world's first 1TB microSD cards, with a release date pegged for April. In the coming years, we can expect the price of 1TB microSD cards to drop as they become commonplace in the industry but for now, expect to pay the price for at least a mid-range smartphone to insert one of these in your own devices.

"Micron's technology leadership in 3D NAND with CMOS under the array and 96-layer QLC has been instrumental in developing and launching the world's first 1TB microSD card", said Aravind Ramamoorthy, senior director of NAND solutions for Micron's Embedded Business Unit.

Handset vendors have been steadily increasing built-in storage on high-end devices, and that's great news for anyone worrying about not having enough memory for all their photos, videos, and all the extra content they want to have handy at any given moment. Micron's card has a more nebulous launch set for some time before July 1, though it is already offering samples to its partners.
