'Politics': Khabib reacts to lopsided McGregor brawl penalty

McGregor (21-4) was handed a six-month suspension and fined $50,000.

Meanwhile, Nurmagomedov tweeted "politics forever" as two members of his team were also banned for their involvement in the incident.

A ban - as well as a hefty fine - seemed likely for the Russian professional mixed martial artist, who has now learned his fate.

Neither fighter was present at the meeting where NSAC commission members voted unanimously on the proposed adjudication agreement drawn up by the Nevada Attorney General and representatives from each of the fighters' teams.

Now, his "brothers", are Zubaira Tukhugov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, who were suspended for one year and fined $25,000 each as a result of their actions during the brawl. After the fight, Nurmagomedov hopped the cage to go after someone in the stands.

But since the suspensions are dated retrospectively to October 6 2018 when the event occurred the dup can return to action on Jul 6.

Khabib's manager Ali Abdelaziz had the following to say on the punishments handed out - again, coming from ESPN's Helwani.

That would enable McGregor, and Khabib if he films the PSA, to be eligible for UFC 236 on April 13, a week after their bans conclude. But don't expect the lightweight champion to return as soon as his suspension is over.

"I don't think it's fair".

One social media user was adamant that McGregor deserved a life ban for all of his previous misdemeanours, including an assault on a UFC bus in 2018.

Nurmagomedov reacted to the suspension on Twitter. Both McGregor and Nurmagomedov are facing punishment for the melee that began when the Dagestani fighter jumped out of the Octagon following his UFC 229 victory to attack McGregor cornerman Dillon Danis.
