Unai Emery has identified the 29-year-old as his number one target, but the Gunners are only able to take player on loan in January due to their financial situation.

The London club have been linked with a move for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, with Italian and British outlets reporting that the 29-year-old Croatia global has handed in a transfer request.

The Gunners have also been linked with FC Barcelona's Denis Suarez, but the Catalan giants would reportedly also prefer a direct sale instead of a loan.

"We've listened to the player, who has expressed his desire to leave, but we need to make sure it makes sense from an economic point of view and no such offer has yet arrived", he told Sky Sport Italia.

"But they are players with the possibility to help us, who can play as a winger, right or left".

However, Emery played down suggestions that the Gunners will be forced sign a centre-back in January, with Laurent Koscielny, Sokratis and Rob Holding all now out injured.

"We have enough players, centre-backs, in the squad", Emery said.

Arsenal's Greece defender Sokratis will be sidelined until the end of February with an ankle injury suffered in Friday's FA Cup defeat by Manchester United.

"Only we're having a lot of injuries and a lot in this position".

Emery said the cup exit would allow his team to put all their efforts into qualifying for the Champions League.

But he could now get his move to the Premier League - with United's rivals Arsenal.
