The news of Gutman's impending transfer to Celtic hasn't gone down too well with Rangers fans, who had been praising the talented youngster after talking to Stateside fans during his time on trial with the club.

"We're a team that plays an aggressive and attacking game, and I felt that was an area that we were short in, in terms of our options".

Weah told Celtic TV that after a recent visit to the club, Edouard was eager to know if he would be making the move.

Celtic, which has won seven straight domestic titles, now leads the Scottish Premiership on goal differential, tied on points with longtime rival Rangers. 'We will be looking to get them out on loan to get them games.

"The markets changed quite considerably really when you lose players". The Liverpool winger has scored three Scottish Premiership goals so far this season and the club will open negotiations with his parent club over a more permanent deal come the summer.

Citing Ryan Christie as an example of a fringe player who extracted the benefits of going out on loan, the Parkhead boss added: 'It's just about time.

"What he has is potential because there are a lot of really good things to his game and of course when you make mistakes at the big clubs then of course it gets highlighted even more".

"He's not 17, 18 so he needs to continue with that learning and learn from the mistakes".

Rodgers said Celtic were "not thinking about" selling the central defender and there was "no update" on the captain's position, however he said "some of our players will definitely go out on loan".

"Sometimes that's just about getting games elsewhere".

Weah wrote: 'Blessed and honoured to be joining this incredible club on a 6 month loan deal. I feel like the coach has a great plan for me and I think he'll help me develop as a man'. We'll see how they do.
