According to The Athletic, the Minnesota Timberwolves have fired Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations Tom Thibodeau.

Taylor wasn't the one to deliver the news to Thibodeau and hadn't yet spoken to the coach as of Sunday night.

Saunders is the son of former Timberwolves head coach and President of Basketball Operations Flip Saunders; Flip died in October 2015 after a multi-year battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

In fact, Towns said he told assistant coaches just last week that he felt the organization was gaining some much-needed "stability" and that he was finally feeling comfortable within his team's schemes. "It's the overall lack of winning on the road and then losing to, lately, some teams at home that we should've won". Taylor has made clear that he expects results this season, but I thought Thibs would get the entire year to show them. "I guess Taylor did not like the direction things were heading and decided to make a change now".

The Timberwolves hired Thibodeau in April 2016. Overall with the Timberwolves, he performed quite well finishing 19-21 this season and 97-107 overall. For the time being, assistant coach Ryan Saunders will take over for Thibodeau on an interim basis.

"I think we have a pretty good team, barring injuries and stuff like that", Taylor said.

Taylor is seriously considering Hoiberg as the next general manager or head coach of the franchise, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Thibodeau entered the season on the hot seat, which is why he was desperately trying to keep Jimmy Butler rather than trade him. After some success in Chicago, Thibs was sacked following the 2014-15 season. Thibodeau and Minnesota's front office eventually sent him to the 76ers in mid-November in exchange for a package centered around Robert Covington and Dario Saric.
