Adam Gase has been hired by the New York Jets as their new head coach, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

McCarthy told NFL Network he has chose to sit out the upcoming season after the Jets hired Adam Gase.

The Green Bay Packers announced Matt LaFleur as the team's 15th head coach on Wednesday.

Former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy will sit out the 2019 season and return to coaching in 2020, according to a report from ESPN. Despite having the likes of Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward, Joe Schobert, Damarious Randall, Larry Ogunjobi and Jabrill Peppers, the Browns ranked in the bottom 3 in total defense in 2018. In 2013, Gase was promoted to offensive coordinator, a position he held through the 2014 season. They likely are interested in him with the hope he could groom quarterback Sam Darnold the same way he did with Aaron Rodgers.

Dowell Loggains is expected to be named as an offensive assistant with the Jets, sources told ESPN's Jeff Darlington.

McCarthy, who took over the Packers in 2006, was sacked by the team in early December after it got off to a 4-7-1 start. This included a Super Bowl winning season in 2011 and eight straight playoff appearances.

The Cincinnati Bengals and the Dolphins remain the only teams yet to name their head coach for the 2019 season.
