Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: 'No question' President Donald Trump is racist

"Oh that's right, nearly forgot: GOP works for the corporate CEOs showering themselves in multi-million bonuses; not the actual working people whose wages + healthcare they're ripping off for profit", Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Sunday.

Ocasio-Cortez was sworn into the House of Representatives on Thursday as Democrats reclaimed control of the lower chamber.

"And so for me, what's unrealistic is what we're living in right now".

The victory has made her a key figure of the Socialist wing of the party, and Ocasio-Cortez has demonstrated a few times that she can respond swiftly with meaningless socialist ramblings. AOC hasn't even been a congresswoman for a week, yet she is setting the terms of the debate inside the Democratic Party.

It was this exchange that prompted social media to call out Anderson Cooper for his out-of-touch response to Trump's obvious and pronounced racism.

The spat took place on social media after Scalise responded with a witty reply to Ocasio-Cortez's progressive tax plan that she announced on national television.

"What we have in mind. and my policies most closely resemble what we see in the United Kingdom, in Norway, in Finland, in Sweden", she told "60 Minutes".

Who would pay higher taxes if Ocasio-Cortez's ideas somehow become a reality? "For instance, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) proposed a $2 trillion, 2.2-percent payroll tax on all families and a $10 trillion, 6.2-percent payroll tax on all businesses as part of his socialized healthcare plan".

Ocasio-Cortez slammed President Trump's administration for rolling back climate change regulations and called on Congress to be more aggressive in its approach to climate change legislation.

"But it is very, very hard when people make accusations where you say, you know, the Democrats have done nothing, the establishment of the Democrats have done nothing", she said. We can debate the merits of high marginal tax rates, but saying that a 70% top marginal tax rate is "radical" is another way of saying that you don't know anything about USA tax policy in the 20th century. "But he's certainly given a voice to it and expanded it and created a platform for those things", she said.

The top marginal tax rate is now 37 percent, following President Donald Trump's fiscal reforms. "And I just want to throw this out to you".

Instead of addressing the question directly, Ocasio-Cortez dodged it completely.

What we are presently witnessing is the shifting of the Overton Window to the left for really the first time in millennials' lifetimes.

Ocasio-Cortez's chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, who co-founded the group Justice Democrats, which supported Ocasio-Cortez in her bid to oust incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley, added, "We need new leaders, period". Your tax rate, you know, let's say, from zero to $75,000 may be ten percent or 15 percent, et cetera.

The segment also touched on her upbringing, noting that she was born in the Bronx but grew up and went to school in Yorktown Heights, N.Y., a town in Westchester County.
