Sarri more interested in signing a winger than a striker like Higuain

Chelsea started struggling striker Alvaro Morata up front in hopes of the Spain worldwide rediscovering his goal-scoring form but debutant Saints' goalkeeper Angus Gunn was the star in an otherwise lacklustre Premier League encounter.

Chelsea is now fourth in the table, three points ahead of Arsenal and six up on Manchester United for the last Champions League spot. "I think we need something else for our characteristics", Sarri said when asked if he would consider recalling on-loan forwards Michy Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham.

And the 27-year-old says he couldn't pass up the opportunity to reunite with his former manager.

"If they finish in there which I believe, then I think it will be a successful season for them".

As previously mentioned, Chelsea's strikers - Álvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud, haven't really made a big impression this season.

New signing Christian Pulisic won't join the club until next season, loaned back to Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the current campaign.

"I didn't know anything about Pulisic yesterday [Tuesday]", Sarri told reporters after Wednesday's 0-0 draw with Southampton.

"We have to try to solve the problem of the last 15 or 20 metres because in the last matches we were in control of the match but for us it's not easy to score the first goal. Obviously questions remain as to regarding Eden Hazard and where he will be, if he's going to be there next season".

For the moment, Sarri continues to use Willian, but the Brazilian's bid to prove his worth was ruined when he was forced off with an injury late in the first half.
