Kevin Hart may host the Oscars 2019 after all

"[Hart] should especially seek forgiveness from Black queer folks in addition to his broader appeals, something DeGeneres can't grant".

Hart was reluctant to offer a full-throated apology at first, citing earlier apologies as sufficient. I don't joke like that any more.

As for Hart bellyaching about his critics hating on him, when do I start crying?

"You're living in times where words and points of view can be misconstrued because of how strong the internet is", Hart said. You know what? I get it.

Whether or not The Upside actor will grace the Oscar stage remains unknown, but hopefully Hart realizes that the lesson in this moment can not be understated. That's a small group of people being very, very loud. DeGeneres also voices her support for Hart and reveals that she called the Academy to try to get him reinstated as host.

In a Variety piece that was published the same time as the Ellen interview, Hart said that he would not consider going back to host the Oscars as it would be a step backwards. "'Kevin we want you to host because we want you to lighten the mood up and bring you and your essence to this night'".

Will the Academy hire Hart back for the job? Don't let those people win.

"And I believe in Ellen", another social media user tweeted.

For defending Kevin Hart and believing in giving him a second chance, DeGeneres was quickly attacked.

Kevin Hart is apparently shutting the door on hosting the Oscars, despite seeming to suggest otherwise while talking to Ellen DeGeneres.

Meghan McCain, however, thought Hart needed to do a little more before all is forgiven. I'm a grown man, I'm cultured.

She wrote in another post: "In this conversation, @KevinHart4real was authentic and real, and I'm in his corner".

The former Saturday Night Live star added "FREE LOUIE [sic] CK!" and declared that if Hart doesn't host the Oscars he will boycott.

Why did Kevin Hart step down from hosting the Oscars? "You've done it. Host the Oscars". He later apologized to the LGBTQ community and voluntarily stepped down as host.

However, just because there's a vacancy in the hosting gig does not mean that Hart needs to return, or just because one gay person has forgiven him does not mean that the rest of the community has to forgive him as well.

To this day the ceremony is without a host with less than two months to the February 24 air date.

The segment has already sparked backlash online, particularly toward Hart's critics being described as "trolls" and "haters", when LGBTQIA+ writers and public figures also and wanted answers.
