Jair Bolsonaro was sworn in as Brazil's president Tuesday, taking the reins of Latin America's largest and most populous nation with promises to overhaul myriad aspects of daily life and put an end to business-as-usual governing.

Supporters of the Brazilian President-elect Jair Bolsonaro, gather next to the Metropolitan Cathedral in Brasilia, on December 31, 2018, on the eve of his inauguration ceremony. "My vow is to strengthen Brazil's democracy".

"I made a lot of money and saved money to buy the ticket, to be able to buy the plane ticket because it's a long way to come by auto but we managed to make it all the way to be here on this day for President Bolsonaro's inauguration".

The Social Liberal Party candidate and former longtime congressman replied to Trump's congratulations, saying, "Together, under God's protection, we shall bring prosperity and progress to our people!"

With U.S. President Donald Trump disengaging from the region, Hayman said, the Iranians may "see Iraq as a convenient theater for entrenchment, similar to what they did in Syria, and to use it as a platform for a force build-up that could also threaten the State of Israel".

Brazil's incoming President Jair Bolsonaro has said he'll follow the lead of the USA and move the country's embassy in Israel to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday.

In his inauguration speech before Brazil's Congress, Bolsonaro called for "a true national pact between society and the executive, legislative and judicial powers" to restore the lackluster economy - "without ideological bias".

Netanyahu will attend Bolsonaro's inauguration ceremony on January 1.

Netanyahu said they would "discuss the intense cooperation between Israel and the United States, which will also deal with the questions following the decision, the American decisions on Syria - on how to intensify even further our intelligence and operations cooperation in Syria and elsewhere to block Iranian aggression in the Middle East, to roll it back". According to several voicing complains on Twitter, guards are seizing items they took to feed themselves as they wait, such as apples and forks because allegedly they are a risk.

Bolsonaro supporters hope their man will do better.

Mr Netanyahu is the first Israeli prime minister to visit Brazil.

That move, though, could be challenged by Congress.

"We are counting on him to free Brazil from the boot of the criminals".

"We believe there will not be a [pre-indictment] hearing because nothing [untoward] has happened", Netanyahu's lawyers said in a statement sent to journalists.

"This inauguration is a turning point", said another, 36-year-old teacher Mauro Penna. "We are very optimistic - this time our country is going to change".
