News of her hospitalization broke Friday morning.

Payton went to work for The Federalist in 2015. "Please, if you're religious at all, send prayers this way". It is with a heavy heart that I type this.

"Bre has passed", publisher Ben Domenech tweeted. "At this time we ask that you keep her family uplifted in prayer and know that we will see her again". "Rest in paradise you lovely soul". The "friend" in the account below is Murtaugh.

Murtaugh said she found Payton unconscious on Thursday morning.

The Caring Bridge page also states that 911 was immediately called and Payton was then taken to the hospital.

Prior to her death, Payton was battling the flu and "possibly meningitis", according to a profile on CaringBridge.org, USA Today reported.

Among her first on-camera appearances that year was on Newsmax TV, which gave me the opportunity to observe her first-hand as she developed a pleasant and winning style.

"We are devastated", Federalist publisher Ben Domenech tweeted shortly after the sad news of her death, "Last we saw her, she was her amusing, smart, vivacious self".

Meghan McCain, the daughter of the late US Senator John McCain and a prominent political commentator, paid tribute.

WSJ columnist Peggy Noonan replied on social media, "Prayers up". "Life is so precious".

"God be with her family". "The doctors are concerned that her neurological signs are not great at this point and have informed us the next 24-48 hours are going to be critical for her". The post reads in part: "Though we are heartbroken and devastated by Bre's death, we are comforted in the knowledge that she was a woman who lived a life marked by deep Christian faith, trusting in her Savior, Jesus Christ - in the God who promises the way our story ends is that 'He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more'".

"In loving memory of Bre's lovely light, joyful spirit, hard-working ethics, and compassionate heart".

Less than two weeks ago, according to Payton's Instagram account, she was hanging out like a normal twentysomething at Exiles Bar in Washington.
