The Gunners surrendered their 22-game unbeaten run in all competitions after Charlie Austin's 85th minute header sealed a 3-2 win for Ralph Hasenhüttl in his first home game in charge of the struggling Saints.

It was the Londoners' first defeat in 23 games and meant they lost ground on fourth-placed Chelsea, while Southampton moved out of the English Premier League (EPL) bottom three.

Unai Emery admitted Arsenal have limited scope to address their defensive headaches in January after Hector Bellerin joined a long injury list during the loss to Southampton.

"We can show this emotion with respect when we are playing but also when they scored against us, they can show their emotion with their supporters".

Unai Emery doubts Arsenal will enter the January transfer market to ease his side's injury crisis.

"It's not a good result but this reality gives us more motivation to continue to work hard, find a new thing to work on each day, and also it makes us demand a lot from ourselves". "After 22 matches unbeaten we are only fifth".

"We conceded chances today but we also had more chances to score than the two goals".

According to the Mirror in one of their last week's transfer rumours, the England global is looking at the prospect of signing with the Gunners in January as desperately wants to be actively involved in League for the rest of the season.

We weren't concentrated through the 90 minutes.

And as much as that was indeed a shock, what was even more odd was that an Arsenal fan, while speaking to AFTV's youtube channel, accurately predicted his team going 22 games unbeaten.

Emery is likely to stick with a back three but I don't think Laurent Koscielny will start a third game in six days.

Paulo Gazzaniga is set to continue in goal for the visitors after featuring in their previous two League Cup wins this season, over Watford and West Ham. "But every time we must respect them".

"Sunday for us was a big reality check in a way", he added.

"The objective is the top four, but we know it's not easy". Mourinho's experience in the Premier League and of coaching in general is very, very big.

"The gaffer's brought in new ideas to not just the first-team changing room but the whole club", Austin said after the game.
