As the media memorializes George H.W. Bush, we look at the lasting impact of his 1991 invasion of Iraq and the propaganda campaign that encouraged it.

George H.W. Bush, a Republican who served as president from 1989 to 1993, died on December 1 at age 94.

It's been an emotional time for friends and family of George H.W. Bush. Former President George W. Bush and his wife greeted the Trumps outside before everyone went in for the private, 20-minute visit. The family took up their seats on the opposite side of the aisle to President Trump and the former presidents.

The family and friends of the late president were in attendance Thursday morning to mourn. The former head of state will lie in repose at St Martin's Episcopal Church, where the Bushes worshipped for decades, until Thursday's funeral.

He was "the last great-soldier statesman", historian Jon Meacham said in his eulogy, "our shield" in risky times.

For all the somber tributes to the late president's public service and strength of character, laughter filled the cathedral time after time.

Since it was built, the 4141 George Bush locomotive has delivered shipments across all 23 states served by Union Pacific, the company said.

WASHINGTON-No American president was "more courageous, more principled and more honourable than George Herbert Walker Bush", former Canadian prime minister Brian Mulroney said in an eulogy at Wednesday's state funeral.

Trump arrived and promptly shook hands with Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama.

A host of world leaders and dignitaries were present at today's funeral.

He will be interred at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Center in College Station, Texas, next to his wife, who died in April, and their daughter Robin who died of leukemia at age three. "They had just as much animus for Bush 41 and Bush 43 as they do Trump, for different reasons". Mr Carter, who cut a frail figure, sat next to former Secretary of State and former First Lady Hillary Clinton at the front of the cathedral. Trump also declared Wednesday a national day of mourning.

To Barbara Bush, her grandfather, George H.W. Bush, was the "center of our family".

Prior to the start of the ceremony, the president used his preferred platform - Twitter - to send a message of remembrance, urging Americans to treat the occasion not as a funeral, but as a celebration of the former president's life. But historians say no previous chief executive has spoken as publicly and as harshly about predecessors as Trump has.

At Wednesday's Washington funeral service at the National Cathedral, there was high praise for the last of the presidents to have fought in World War II - and a hefty dose of humor about a man whose speaking delivery was once described as a cross between Mister Rogers and John Wayne.
