Formula 3 driver Sophia Florsch has suffered a fractured spine following a horror crash during the Macau Grand Prix.

Video footage showed Floersch appearing to clip Japanese driver Sho Tsuboi's auto while flying off the track at high speed on a tight right-hand bend on lap four.

"Thanks to the FIA and HWA AG Mercedes who are taking great care of me". Thanks to everybody for the Supporting messages. Two media members and a race marshal were also hospitalized with unspecified injuries, the FIA said. All my thoughts are with you Sophia Florsch and the others injured.

German racer Sophia Floersch hurtled into marshals and photographers after flying off the track on Sunday.

"Current interim information: The medical team is deliberately working slowly to avoid risks", she tweeted.

That driver was Sophia Floersch. But Daruvala had to brake early with the yellow caution lights on, so Floersch had little time to react.

When the race was eventually re-started, following a lengthy red flag period, it was Red Bull junior driver Dan Ticktum who seized control, crossing the line 1.2s clear of Swede Joel Eriksson.

Floersch is in her first season in Formula 3.

Shocking video footage shows Ms Floersch's vehicle hurtling through the air before smashing into an area filled with marshals and photographers. "I don't think I've ever prepared as hard as I did for this race and it all worked out". "The reality is I am far away from walking on my own". I have to do my best and gain confidence with every lap I do.

Whilst the cause of the crash wasn't captured on film, it later emerged that Floersch had tangled with another rival on the straight just before the Lisboa corner.

Meanwhile, Frits van Amersfoort, owner of Van Amersfoort Racing, said: "We were thinking the worst".
