Samsung Developers Conference 2018: Everything You Need to Know

There's a 7.3-inch interior display you see when the phone's fully unfolded in tablet mode, but when you close it up, a 4.5 exterior screen acts like the smartphone already in your pocket.

The device does not fold flat and was quite hard to hold, Bell said, adding that the plastic display lifted a little over the hinges and made a "crunching sound" while folding. Google will also adapt Android Q accordingly and support these new functions in the operating system.

The device could have multiple screens or at least one can run more than one application at a time and since the foldable phone is still work in progress, there may be many variations from now and when the final design is signed off.

Of course, this could equally be another handset or just a generic device that Samsung has mocked up to show the color-matching feature, so we wouldn't read too much into it. The Infinity O display, meanwhile, sits offset to the left side of the screen.

Little-known Chinese technology company Royole Corp first beat South Korean giant Samsung in launching the world's first foldable smartphone - and now early reviews suggest it actually works.

Samsung also revealed more details about the foldable phone's aspect ratios and resolution.

Reporters at the American technology network The Verge, and digital media website Mashable, were among those to get their hands on Royole's FlexPai device at the event in San Francisco.

Bixby started as a practical way to use voice to interact with the phone. Available in more than 200 markets around the world, SmartThings offers a connected experience in a single app, bringing IoT into the smart home, the auto, office and everywhere in between, the company said. Its minimalstic design keeps the most relevant content on the bottom half of the screen, making it more natural and comfortable for one-handed use, the company said. That requires app developers to comply, but Samsung is probably the only Android vendor with a competent suite of apps to rival Google's. "The experience was reengineered to reduce clutter and distractions, allowing the user to better focus and quickly navigate".
