Yahoo Sports also noted that WWE wasn't backing away from the event in Saudi Arabia, despite the controversy stemming from its show in Riyadh in the wake of Khashoggi's mysterious death.

- Another championship match is officially announced for tomorrow's WWE Crown Jewel event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Michaels will team with Triple H against The Undertaker and Kane, while a World Cup tournament featuring Bobby Lashley, Kurt Angle, Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler, Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton, The Miz, and Rey Mysterio will also take place.

Cena, 41, decided against performing on the show, TMZ reported, as WWE trudges on with the event amid enhanced scrutiny.

Whether Cena asked to be removed due to moral objections or for purely pragmatic public image reasons, Cena is off the show and out a big payday.

The Crown Jewel event is set to take place in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh on 2 November.

Wrestlers with less accumulated main event six-figure paydays or who are shakier ground with their clout with top management might have feared ramifications if they protested rather than trusting WWE management's decision.

Should that happen, the WWE will have to replace two stars, not just one, thanks to its controversial decision to stick it out in Saudi Arabia. "Regardless of what is going on in my universe, I was not going to miss this event for anything in the world".

"After a three-year suspension, Hulk Hogan has been reinstated into the WWE Hall of Fame".

WWE instead has put Saudi Arabia on mute as backlash spreads against its lucrative long-term deal with a kingdom facing global uproar. Daniel Bryan was written out of the show as well after reportedly not wanting to be associated with it. Bryan ended up winning, which earned him a title shot against WWE Champion AJ Styles at Crown Jewel.

Khashoggi had been a vocal critic of the current Saudi regime.

WWE has operated in the Middle East for almost 20 years and has developed a sizeable and dedicated fan base.
