NYPD Investigating Suspicious Packages at Time Warner Center

Holding court on the driveway outside the West Wing, press secretary Sarah Sanders elaborated, saying media coverage of Trump is 90 percent negative and while he condemns violence he feels "everyone has a role to play".

While the CNN report was detailed about where the White House package was intercepted and what was in the bomb, Reuters later reported that "no suspicious package" was actually intercepted.

Neither Obama nor Clinton received the packages sent to them or were at risk of receiving them, the Secret Service said.

Meanwhile, the network is reporting the device was removed from the building by police.

Sweeney said all of the devices were being sent to the FBI's crime lab in Quantico, Virginia, for analysis.

The packages stoked nationwide tensions and fears as voters prepared to vote November 6 to determine partisan control of Congress - a campaign both parties have described in near-apocalyptic terms. "We're going to find out what the latest is here and we're going to be right back". "It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description". Trump has repeatedly criticized CNN as "fake news" and disparaged the mainstream news media as an "enemy of the people".

The suspicious package was addressed to former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Brennan, who is a CNN contributor and critic of US President Donald Trump, the media outlet reported citing local and city law enforcement officials.

Speaking at an event in Austin, Texas, Brennan called the spate of pipe bombs "a very unfortunate turn of events", particularly if he and others are being targeted for their public comments.

"Your inflammatory rhetoric, insults, lies, & encouragement of physical violence are disgraceful", Brennan wrote. They noted the president's recent praise of a GOP congressman who body-slammed a reporter, among other Trump statements. But Democratic Senate and House leaders Chuck Schumer of NY and Nancy Pelosi of California said such words "ring hollow" when coming from Trump.

The package was delivered by courier, law enforcement sources said. The official said the devices were made from PVC pipe and covered with black tape.

"This investigation is of the highest priority for the FBI", Wray said.

The tape on the pipe is "an investigator's dream", he said, recalling a case in Texas that was solved because the fibers on the tape were traced to the bomber's dog. He said bombers tend to plot methodically.

The new packages discovered Thursday set off a new wave of alarm.

According to CNN, the New York Police Department (NYPD) is responding to a suspicious device discovered at the Time Warner Center in New York, where the news channel is located, and evacuated from the offices as a precaution.

Like earlier targets, both Biden and De Niro have been sharply critical of Trump.

"I'm not saying - and I don't believe - that the president is doing this on goal, but he is doing it for his own political imperatives, especially at a time of upcoming midterm elections", Bokhari said in an interview. Trump sometimes likes to talk about how he would beat Biden in a fistfight. "We want all sides to come together in peace and harmony". It isn't clear whether or not the attack is over; the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it can't rule out that more suspicious packages might still be moving through the mail.

The discovery of the packages came after a small bomb was found earlier this week at the home of billionaire liberal donor George Soros, in the New York City suburb of Katonah.

The bombing attempts comprise just the latest - and potentially most risky - example of extremist elements feeling empowered by presidential rhetoric, said Kamran Bokhari, a Washington-based political science lecturer with the University of Ottawa's Security and Policy Institute.

On Tuesday, the Secret Service intercepted a package addressed to Clinton at the home she shares with her husband, former president Bill Clinton, north of Manhattan.

Authorities found bombs this week intended for at least seven officials, including Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters. They bore the return address of Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, also a Democrat, by way of a fraudulent return address.

CNN chief Jeff Zucker criticized the White House for a "total and complete lack of understanding" of the seriousness of its attacks on the media, as his network's NY bureau was evacuated for five hours Wednesday following the discovery of an explosive device sent there.

Even as everyone condemned the unknown sender and Trump decried political violence, blame flew for the corrosive nature of America's political conversation.

Mr Trump sought to blame the media for creating what he has said is a hostile environment at a midterm election campaign rally in Wisconsin on Wednesday night.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican, said: "I don't see anything really wrong with the president".
