Because some of the Halloween movies attempt a very solid throughline of continuity, there are little winks and nods to things that happened previously which very almost go by unnoticed, but still manage to connect things.

It makes it the biggest debut ever for a horror film with a female lead, and the biggest debut ever for any film with a female lead over 55.

Halloween is slaying its box office competition. "The movie-going experience is as viable and relevant as ever".

For the entire horror genre, Halloween's debut is just above Interview with the Vampire's opening-weekend attendance but is a long way's away from last fall's Stephen King adaptation IT, which sold 13.8 million tickets in its first few days.

"There is nothing about a horror movie that you can entice me with": Jamie Lee Curtis in Sydney before the Australian premiere of the latest Halloween movie. Carpenter served as an executive producer and composed the score with his son, Cody Carpenter, and godson, Daniel Davies. Halloween had the second-best start for an R-rated horror film after last year's It, and still maintains the second-highest October debut after Venom took that record earlier this month. Plus, the critics have liked it, the film now at 80 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Forty years later, Michael has returned to the screen for an tenth time, in David Gordon Green's Halloween, which is a direct sequel to the first film. On a $10 million budget, the film earned a total of $91.8 million, including worldwide openings. There's also the option of removing this film from the continuity, just as it removed the existing Halloween sequels from the timeline, Blumhouse and Green could be so bold as to say this film stands on its own, outside any other sequels that came before or after. After "Venom's" two-week reign atop domestic box office charts, Sunday estimates show Sony's superhero movie led by Tom Hardy was narrowly defeated by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's "A Star Is Born" for second place. The film now sits at $126 million domestically with another $74.7 million from worldwide markets, giving it a global total of $201 million. The studio had expected an opening north of $50 million.

And that's not including the $14.3m (£10.9m) made in overseas box offices, either.
