Cruz, working to fend off El Paso Rep. Beto O'Rourke, welcomes the help from Donald Trump-an ally for the last two years, after an unusually bitter rivalry during the 2016 presidential primaries.

If there was any doubt the idea that Donald Trump is a nationalist, it was put to bed on Monday night.

"We had our little difficulties", Trump said. In recent weeks, Trump has attacked O'Rourke on Twitter as a "total lightweight" and a "flake", while stressing that Cruz "has long had my Strong Endorsement".

"Um, I am not aware of a lot of specific accomplishments that he has made..." said one young lady.

President Trump departed for Texas Monday afternoon to hit the campaign trail with GOP Senator Ted Cruz; saying he has a "beautiful" relationship with the Republican legislator and calling his liberal challenger "highly overrated".

"He's not lyin' Ted anymore". O'Rourke has gained national media attention in the U.S. Senate race. "We can't have that". "On Election Day in 2016, I really had a choice to make". I'm a nationalist, OK? "I think it fired up the base and it fired up those more independents and some of those other folks who said, 'You know what?" You know what I am?

In his rally speech, Trump sought to blame the Democrats for a caravan of people traveling toward the United States through Mexico.

Trump escalated that message Monday on Twitter, saying the USA would begin "cutting off, or substantially reducing" aid to three Central American nations over a migrant caravan heading to the US southern border.

Cruz added: "I look forward to campaigning alongside him in 2020".
