A woman in Texas was caught on surveillance video abandoning a 2-year-old boy at a stranger's front door.

Surveillance video released Thursday shows a woman running up to the home, where she abandoned the child and fled, officials said.

Police said they had identified the woman who left the child but that it had not spoken to her yet.

Spencer says the boy's father, Willie Simmons, lives next door.

Surveillance video shows a woman arriving at the house in a white vehicle.

The woman approaches the door holding the toddler by the arm.

Ring doorbell video captured the incident Wednesday night, which lasted about 23 seconds.

Authorities say the mother's friend dropped off the child later that evening at the wrong home and didn't stay to make sure anyone was home. Officers reviewed the security footage and canvased the neighborhood, asking residents if they recognized the child.

She left without verifying anyone was home or who she was leaving the child with.

"Right now, we are ecstatic that the child's father has been found and detectives are working with Child Protective Services to reunite the child with the father and family", Spencer said.

"I was gut-wrenched", Lt. Scott Spencer said of his reaction to the video. Authorities say it will be up to CPS on if the child will be returned to his parents.

The boy is in the custody of Child Protective Services until authorities can release him to a family member.

The incident happened around 8:20 p.m.at a home in the 30700 block of Legends Ridge Drive. The friend is the woman in the video. Authorities have identified the woman and say she could face a felony child abandonment charge. The woman appears to be in her mid-20s to early 30s with long hair. "Deputies canvassed the area in an attempt to find anyone who knew the child but were unable to locate anyone".

The boy is uninjured and appears to be in good health, the sheriff's office said.
