Floyd Mayweather thrown down the gauntlet to Khabib Nurmagomedov, making a stunning $280 million claim about their potential fight.

Khabib successfully defended his title earlier this month at UFC 229 with a submission win over Conor McGregor, who stepped out of the octagon and into the boxing ring last August to take on Mayweather. Mayweather, who is retired from boxing with a flawless 50-0 record, hasn't announced whether he'll fight again or who his opponent will be if he decides to return to the ring.

"He called me out. But, on my end, we can make it happen", Mayweather told TMZ Sports. We fighting. I mean, I'm my own boss. I can't say what's going on at Khabib's end. "It's very important. We have something pending there, so let's make the second fight".

Mayweather expects a "nine-figure payday" for the match, meaning he wants to earn a minimum of $100 million to fight the current UFC lightweight champion.

Either way, the brief back and forths between the two has, of course, created discussion among the MMA community as to what would happen if the UFC lightweight champion Nurmagomedov were to step into the squared circle. He said I didn't knock Conor McGregor down.

Nurmagomedov told Mayweather "in the jungle there is only one king" in requesting a bout.

However, Mayweather warned the Russian there must be no repeat of the melee that followed his defeat of McGregor in Las Vegas.

'He called me out, so he's got to come to my world'. "It could be somewhere upwards of $110 (million) to $200 million guaranteed". "I seen in an interview, he said when he hit Conor McGregor, he knocked Conor McGregor down".

The same will obviously be true for Nurmagomedov, who is a skilled grappler and possesses what might be the best ground game in the UFC. You are pretty busy with that, I hope it won't get stuck in your throat. So much so that he's even acquired Floyd Mayweather's attention.

And the Mexican is keen on a rematch with Mayweather, who defeated him comfortably in 2013.

"He's insane. He is going to start wrestling".
