Trump says 'plenty of evidence' of Chinese meddling in USA election

Later Wednesday, at a lengthy news conference in which he took questions on everything from his embattled Supreme Court nominee to trade with North Korea, Trump said that China "would like to see me lose an election" and that no country has ever stood up to China like his administration.

Trump addressed a roomful of hundreds of reporters from U.S. and worldwide media organisations this morning in a sweltering hotel ballroom following his participation in United Nations talks.

The president then went on to complain that China's retaliatory tariffs were targeting his supporters.

Trump's accusation is likely to reverberate in Beijing, where Chinese leaders have become increasingly convinced the Trump administration is pursuing a strategy aimed at containing the country's economic growth.

Nevertheless, Trump insisted he maintained a strong influence over the rapidly emerging world power.

"Jared, who's so involved, he loves Israel but he's also going to be very fair with the Palestinians", the USA president later told a news conference.

A Chinese delegate shrugged when he heard Trump's statement via translation in the general assembly. "We were doing it together, we had a good time".

Netanyahu thanked Trump for his support and his decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal and said U.S. -Israel relations have never been better than under his administration. "That was not laughing at me".

However, a senior Palestinian official rejected Trump's comments in support of a two-state solution, saying his White House's policies were destroying hopes of peace. But China, Russia and other countries have been purchasing such advertisements for many years.

Just sentences into the president's remarks, the audience began to chuckle and some leaders broke into outright laughter, suggesting the one-time reality television star's puffery is as familiar overseas as it is at home.

In the latest salvo, United States tariffs on $200bn worth of Chinese goods and retaliatory taxes by Beijing on $60bn worth of U.S. products kicked in on Monday, unnerving global financial markets.

He said he can't disclose the evidence, but that it will come out, adding that his allegation did not come "out of nowhere".

USA intelligence officials have said previously that other nations could opt to try and copy Russia's playbook of meddling in the 2016 US presidential election. "China has also targeted state and local governments critical of officials". They've actually admitted that they're going after farmers. If they're both happy, I'm okay with either. "We don't want to them to meddle or interfere in our upcoming election".

The U.S. has already imposed tariffs on $50 billion worth of Chinese goods, and China has retaliated on an equal amount on U.S. goods.

The leaders also discussed trade and military defence at the meeting. Mattis said this and other problems with China are being "sorted out".

U.S. President Donald Trump waded into thorny Middle East politics while at the United Nations on Wednesday, endorsing the two-state solution to bring an end the decadeslong conflict between Israel and the Palestinians while poised to denounce the dangers posed by Iran. The president says it would be called "USM", for the USA and Mexico, instead of "USMC". A Chinese official said China can not hold talks on ending the trade dispute while the USA "holds a knife" to Beijing's neck by hiking tariffs.

"I like the one that both parties like", he said in a news conference with Netanyahu at the time.
