Judge Steven O'Neill made the decision Tuesday as he prepares to sentence the 81-year-old comedian for drugging and molesting a woman at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004.

The judge quoted Constand's own statement to the court, in which she said Cosby took her "beautiful, young spirit and crushed it". The classification will make Cosby subject to mandatory lifetime counseling and community notification, but did not impact the length of his prison sentence.

According to Variety, Cosby remained seated and showed no emotion as his sentence was handed down. And he said the sentence should send a message to others.

Actor and comedian Bill Cosby leaves the Montgomery County Courthouse after his first day of sentencing hearings in his sexual assault trial in Norristown, Pennsylvania, U.S., September 24, 2018. It's not immediately clear if Cosby will actually be sentenced the same day.

Amber Tamblyn lamented that the sentence of three to 10 years was not almost enough for his dozens of alleged victims.

Arguing over Cosby being ruled as a sexually violent predator, his counsel conveyed it to the judge that Pennsylvania's sex-offender law remains unconstitutional despite several revisions on sexually violent predator designation. "Your time has come".

Cosby's name will now appear on the sex-offender registry.

Judge Steven O'Neill said while announcing the sentencing that he can not treat Cosby differently "because of who he is or was". "You heard me, the jury heard me and Mr. Cosby heard me".

He is required to pay $25,000 in fines and an estimated $44,000 in prosecution fees.

'When the sexual assault happened, I was a young woman brimming with confidence and looking forward to a future bright with possibilities, ' she wrote in the statement.

But only Constand's allegation was the focus of a criminal trial, and she was in court for the sentencing, telling O'Neill she was asking only for "justice as the court sees fit". Constand, whose testimony at trial was central to the case against Cosby, spoke for just a few moments in court. Meanwhile, Cosby's lawyers had pushed for house arrest, citing their client's blindness, advanced age and declining health. Cosby was denied bail and serves the full term, he'll be 91 when he's released.

Constand said her training as a professional basketball player had led her to think she could handle anything, but "life as I knew it" ended on the night that Cosby knocked her out with pills and violated her.

A state panel had advised that Cosby be classified as a "sexually violent predator".

"This is a serious crime", said O'Neill, who rejected the defense request for house arrest, partial confinement, and even a chance to serve the sentence in the county jail as opposed to state prison.

The Cosby case "really raised awareness of the pervasiveness of ... sexual misconduct against subordinates and against women of relatively less power", said Daniel Filler, dean of Drexel University's law school.

What sentence did Bill Cosby receive? They said he used "his stature at Temple University, and, of course, his acting success and public persona to facilitate his drug-induced sexual assault".
