Apple unveiled its Apple Watch Series 4 line of smartwatches today and the changes are immediately obvious.

Shares of fitness device rival Fitbit Inc fell 6.9 percent after the Series 4 announcement.

During its big confab at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park, Apple showcased the new Apple Watch Series 4. So, if you're clumsy. you might want to be careful.

That comes at a price, though. However, it is worth noting that Apple has made the move to more energy-efficient, LTPO OLED screens for the Series 4.

"This is a pretty big deal", said healthcare tech analyst Ross Muken at Evercore.

"Apple Watch has now become an intelligent guardian for your health", said Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer. What makes it different from Series 3 and Series 2?

Wait, there are new Watch sizes?

The speaker in the watch has also been redesigned to be 50 per cent louder so you can better bother folks on the bus when playing music through your watch, you bloody futuristic fellow. To use the ECG, you just tap the Digital Crown. The watch is 30-percent larger on its face (40mm and 44mm) and thinner front-to-back. Flames licked the edges of the screen and highlighted the secondhand as it ticked. The Breathe app will now be available as a watch face and will guide you through a deep breath exercise when you raise your wrist. Vapor could be smoke or mist wafting across the screen; it's just as calming as Breathe.

To be extra clear, the Apple Watch Series 4 is created to work with any existing wristbands. The "Digital Crown" - the fancy name given to the watch's control dial - now has haptic feedback for easier and more precise control. This offers a more tactile experience for browsing through apps, calendar entries or other lists.

Apple Watches were already capable wrist-worn heart-rate monitors, but the Series 4 has some new tricks in that regard.

No less importantly, the new Apple Watch comes with new accelerometer and gyroscope sensors that give it greater sensitivity. Williams cautioned that Apple would not be able to detect every instance, but said "we believe this will help a lot of people who didn't know they had an issue".

Apple watch now also supports ECG, which improves the heart rate monitoring using electrodes added to the back of the device. The series 4 will be available for pre-order on Friday and will ship to consumers on September 21. The Series 4 with cellular connectivity starts at $499 for the 400mm model. It is backed by 16GB of storage - as much as on a GPS + Cellular Series 3 model, but twice as much as on the Series 2 or GPS Series 3 models.

Finally the post also mentions various new sport band colors, as well as a new multicolor leather band and a gold stainless steel band.

If you're on the fence about the Series 4's size, try one on in person.
