Serena Williams - who nearly died from birth complications after welcoming daughter Alexis Olympia into the world - in a photo of the pair she shared on Instagram. "This is her first Grand Slam".

Serena fumed after umpire Carlos Ramos issued a game penalty to her during her match as he accused her of getting coaching from the side lines.

Williams lost her calm and out loud abused the umpire, calling him a "liar" and a "thief".

On the other hand, Naomi Osaka has become the first ever tennis player from Japan to hold a grand slam title as she beat Williams 6-2, 6-4 in the summit face-off at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in NY. "Every time I step out on this court I'm so grateful that I have the opportunity to play this sport".

Williams and Osaka have played against each other once before, at Miami in March, and it was the Japanese upstart who toppled her idol in straight sets.

Speaking about her daughter in HBO documentary series Being Serena: "For so many years, I defined myself in just one way: by success, by championships, by making history". "She would have been cheered and chided for "gamesmanship.' Male tennis stars are reminding us that they have 'done much worse" and have not been penalized".

"I didn't get coaching".

Williams seen on court during her semifinal win over Anastasia Sevastova. Afterward, she spoke about why she called Ramos a thief for taking her point and game and how she had cited Olympia in telling him on the court, "I don't cheat to win". I haven't cheated in my life. I have a daughter and I stand for what's right.

After returning home, Williams was forced to be bedridden for six weeks so her body could recover, something she has said was very hard due to her having a little baby who wanted her mother.

The tennis player concluded: "So no matter what happens in any match, I just feel like I've already won".
