Guyger, 30, is a four-year veteran of the police force. In 2017, she shot Uvaldo Perez, 47. As officers on the scene tried to figure out who the woman was, the man in the back seat got out, defying orders to stay in the vehicle.

'I didn't know she was white until now.

Dallas Police Chief Reneé Hall said a manslaughter warrant was filed on Friday, but it was temporarily held up as an investigation was initiated by the state police (the Texas Rangers).

The Dallas Police Department has since ceased handling the incident under its "normal officer-involved shooting protocol" and has invited the Texas Rangers to conduct an independent investigation.

Her name is Amber Guyger, and interestingly, she was also involved in the shooting of a suspect in 2017, according to a report. Responding officers administered aid to the victim, a 26-year-old male, at the scene. But officials caution the public about reaching certain conclusions when much is still unknown.

Jean, who has held government posts in the island nation of St. Lucia, says her son's death "just feels like a nightmare". She is white; he was black.

"We have nothing to substantiate those claims", Merritt told reporters at a press conference Saturday".

Police Chief Reneé Hall said a blood sample was drawn at her request to test the officer's drug and alcohol levels and "we are in the process of obtaining a warrant based on the circumstances".

But it was not clear Saturday whether the officer has been formally charged or whether she's in custody.

Right now there are more questions than answers.

"She took my life away, like my very own life. That includes holding Amber Guyger accountable for her crimes as well as ID'ing all responsible for enabling this incident".

Former classmates from Harding University told the ChristianChronicle.org that he was known for his deep faith and his handsome singing voice. He often led the singing at the university chapel. When he returned that night, he sang the song with grace and poise, as though he'd always known it. He was transferred to a hospital and died later that evening.

Before Sunday's action against Guyger, the family's lawyer, Lee Merritt, said the lack of an arrest had added to the family's grief. He was listed on LinkedIn as a risk assurance experienced associate.

"This is a awful tragedy", the company said in a statement". Such questions are being raised by Jean's family and attorney.

U.S. police shooting victim Botham Jean leads a worship service at a university presidential reception in Dallas in 2017. She was visiting a daughter in Florida when she learned her son had been killed. "I wish I could wake up". Guyger allegedly entered an apartment she thought was hers, and killed a man she didn't recognize, Dallas' FOX 4 reported. Jean said Friday in footage broadcast by Dallas' NBC affiliate, KXAS.

She remembered her son, who was nicknamed Bo, as a top student who loved serving as a song leader in church and leading worship. Also, Guyger was not one of the people with Jean in a picture that has been circulating on social media, sources said.

Mayor Mike Rawlings described the slaying as a "very serious situation" for the city and described Botham Jean as a young professional and man of faith who was "exactly the sort of citizen we want to have".
