We're Progressing Under Unai Emery, Says Arsenal Star After Beating West Ham

Ozil wasn't even included in the match-day squad in Arsenal's clash against West Ham - and then reports started to surfaced suggesting that the playmaker had had an argument with the Gunner's manager earlier in the week and that's why he was left out.

He said that the flimsical, unconvincing nature of the excuse is done purposefully by Emery to illustrate his unhappiness with Ozil's behaviour and attitude. I don't know how I can explain in English. It isn't true. That information needs first to be true. "We hope he can do more in the next matches, too".

Unai Emery toasted a first victory as Arsenal head coach as his side came from behind to seal an unconvincing win over London rivals West Ham.

Emery added that Ozil left the training ground on Friday because "he was going to his home, because he was sick".

It was initially reported Ozil's absence was due to an illness, with some claiming that he is suffering from influenza.

It has been a hard few months for Ozil, who was widely slammed for his performances for Germany during this summer's World Cup, which ultimately lead him to retire from global duty altogether.

The former Real Madrid player was substituted during the second half of last Sunday's 3-2 loss at Stamford Bridge.

When pressed on the type of illness Ozil is suffering from, Emery responded (via Arsenal's official website): When you are sick... I said come if you feel better and he felt better.

"He has a cold".

Arsenal lost its first two matches this season, albeit to tough opponents Manchester City and Chelsea, and questions were already being asked if the new manager was good enough to motivate his players.
