'Impeach me and market will crash'

President Donald Trump is distancing himself from his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, in the wake of Cohen's guilty plea to eight charges, including campaign finance violations that Cohen says he carried out in coordination with Trump.

"I'll tell you what, if I ever got impeached, I think the market would crash", he said.

Trump says Americans would see economic "numbers that you wouldn't believe in reverse".

"I don't know how you can impeach somebody who has done a great job", Trump said.

Special counsel Robert Mueller is continuing to investigate possible coordination between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation during the 2016 election and whether Trump has tried to obstruct that probe.

Correspondents say it is unlikely Mr Trump's opponents would try to impeach him before November's mid-term elections.

"He was a lawyer for me, one of many", Trump said.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), never one to hold back, has thrown down the gauntlet - calling it the "responsibility" of Congress to impeach President Donald Trump for what she deems "high crimes".

"While I am Attorney General, the actions of the Department of Justice will not be improperly influenced by political considerations", Sessions said. Giving himself sole credit for the state of the USA economy, the president predicted total doom for America the very minute he's forced from office. "For 30, 40 years I've been watching flippers".

Cohen said Trump directed him to arrange the payment of hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels and a former Playboy model to fend off damage to his White House bid.

In his first reaction to the Cohen bombshell, Trump asserted in a series of tweets that his former lawyer's campaign finance violations were "not a crime".

"I know all about flipping", Trump said.

That tool "almost ought to be outlawed". Contributions of 200 words or more will be considered for publication.

The president has denied having affairs with the women, and he and his team have denied he had any knowledge of the payments before they were made.

Cohen was investigated after a referral to the U.S. Attorney's office for the Southern District of NY from special counsel Robert Mueller, who is heading up the investigation into Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 presidential election.

She's out of lockstep with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) with this pronouncement - Pelosi has said that impeachment talk would be a "gift to Republicans", claiming on Wednesday that impeachment is "not a priority" for Democrats.
